Maria Sakkari after an abysmal run of form as of late has made a change and has parted with her long-time coach, Tom Hill who has been by her side throughout her rise including 125 consecutive weeks in the top 10 which will cease next week.
Sakkari lost to Linda Noskova in the first round of Qatar after recent losses to Sorana Cirstea, Elina Avanesyan at the Australian Open, a poor WTA Finals and only bright spark being a title in the WTA 1000 in Guadalajara where she ended a barren run after being bundled out in tears at the US Open.
She mooted at the time that changes were needed, but she went on to break a barren title run so likely stuck with it but is now set to make a change and it is unknown which direction she will go in after joining forces with Hill who was unknown back in 2018, but has now become a prominent coach who himself likely won't be short of offers.
“Tom, Thank you for all the emotions, the support on and off the court, and the belief you had in me since day one. We grew together, and you helped me realize that everything is possible. Not only did you make me a better tennis player, but you also made me a better person. Thank you for always wanting the best for me and for always having my back! Good luck on the next chapter in your career," said Sakkari on Instagram.
Her coach also posted a heartfelt message to praise the Greek. "After 6 great years together, Maria and I are ending our professional partnership but will continue to remain close friends. Our journey has been filled with incredible achievements: climbing to a career high of world number 3, Grand Slam semifinals, a WTA 1000 title and 125 consecutive weeks in the Top 10. Maria is not only an incredible athlete but a great person. Working with Maria has been an absolute privilege and I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together. We both believe this is a step forward in our respective paths, allowing us to explore new opportunities and exciting challenges that lie ahead. Thank you, Maria, for the amazing journey. I'm excited about what the future holds for you! Pame!"
