The 2024 Miami Open has not kept to the name of the Sunshine Double with the Floridian sunshine certainly not coming out in recent days. Although there is some light amid the dark clouds with this likely being the final day of disruption for the rest of the tournament. But for many who did not start their campaigns yesterday, it is going to mean a lot of matches in the coming days to get back on track with Saturday already disrupted.
No play until at least 1`pm on court with the weather supposedly passing, but predictions believing that play won't begin until at least 5pm local time with a fairly clean slate after that. But that is in around five hours time as of time of publish meaning that for many players who are later in the schedule such as Carlos Alcaraz, Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina, it will be a late night.
As well as those stars, Iga Swiatek, Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev will all start their campaigns, Sinner started his yesterday but was one of many who was left just caught out by the rain which curtailed the rest of the night. Only eight matches were completed with Sabalenka, Gauff among others winning. But when it came to Sinner, he was only a few games in so couldn't beat the rain.
It is a potential scheduling nightmare still for the tournament with 45 matches needing to be completed today and likely carry over of matches that were due to take place today. Only one section of the draw is confirmed for Sunday meaning that the tournament is prepared for inclement weather to ruin some of the night. While it is somewhat looking up for the rest of the week, the calls for the roof in Miami grow ever more as delays continue.
