Mirra
Andreeva (No. 24) secured a significant victory against
Emma Navarro (No. 13)
with a score of 6-2, 6-2. The Russian teenager had recently won the WTA 250
Iasi Open and fell in the first round of Paris 2024 to Magda Linette, although
she won a silver medal in doubles alongside Diana Shnaider.
In a match
between two players who have risen in the rankings over recent months, Andreeva
showed great effectiveness with her first serve and took advantage of Navarro's
inconsistent performance to secure her 6th consecutive WTA-level triumph.
Andreeva overpowers Navarro in Cincinnati Open showdown
It was a strong start for the Russian, who secured an early
break to lead 2-0. Andreeva kept the pressure on her opponent's serve and faced
no trouble with her own service, maintaining her advantage with relative ease.
Although she faced a break point in the 6th game, she overcame it and took a
second break in the 7th game, closing the set 6-2.
With a clear lead against one of the local hopes, Andreeva
didn't slow down in the second set. She won 85% of points played on her first
serve and 75% on her second, conceding just four points on her serve throughout
the set, while winning 48% of return points.
In the 3rd and 7th games, she achieved breaks against a
particularly inaccurate Navarro on the day. Andreeva had no trouble securing
the win with scores of 6-2, 6-2 in just one hour and 7 minutes. In the third
round, she will face former world No. 1 Karolína Plíšková.
