Garbine Muguruza and Paula Badosa are among multiple leading names to withdraw from the Transylvania Open shortly before the draw is completed on Saturday evening.
Muguruza and Badosa were both chasing WTA Finals spots but with Ashleigh Barty withdrawing, the former has had her spot confirmed while the Indian Wells champion will likely hang onto her spot.
dThis has meant that playing the WTA 250 is not needed for either player but still means only one top 20 player will be involved in Cluj.
Tournament organisers confirmed their withdrawal along with that of Ekaterina Alexandrova, Viktoria Golubic, Veronika Kudermetova, Kaia Kanepi, and Mayar Sherif with the former into the final in Moscow.
Andreea Prisacariu and Anna-Lena Freidsam will take the spots of Muguruza and Badosa. While Ana Bogdan, Alison Van Uytvanck, Ivana Jorovic, and Kaja Juvan take the other spots in the draw.
Anett Kontaveit is scheduled to play in Romania this week but will still be in the final tomorrow in Russia like Alexandrova so her participation is still a question mark.
Simona Halep is the highest seed with Emma Raducanu also involved after winning the US Open despite the situation of no fans in her father's home.
