Muguruza "Happy to get the win", in Volvo Car Open debut

Garbine Muguruza did well to see off Magdalena Frech in straight sets at the Volvo Car Open in Charleston.

It was a good display from Muguruza on her favoured clay surface despite it not being the red colour she is so familiar with. Green Clay is a bit different but Muguruza played well saving all the break points she faced as well as hitting 24 winners.

After the match the in-form Spaniard said:

"I’m happy that I got this win, that I fought hard, that I kept my fighting spirit through the whole match, also in the second set which was tighter than the first set. I’m pleased with that, very simple."

It was a great display from Muguruza who won 6-1 6-3 in 70 minutes of tennis against Frech who did well in the 1st round. The 2nd set was especially tight with Muguruza looking a bit tired at times.

It's no wonder because no player has played more matches this season and this win was her 21 win on the year which is the most by far on the WTA tour. She will face Yulia Putintseva in the next round against whom she holds a 2-0 H2H record.
