Retired American tennis pro Martina Navratilova is of the opinion that Serena Williams will not surpass the 24 Grand Slam titles held by Margaret Court, with Williams being just one title shy of the record.
In an interview with Tennis.com, Navratilova stated that Williams best shot at winning another Grand Slam would be at the US Open.
“More than 24 majors? Probably not, 24 is very possible. I thought she had a great shot at it at Wimbledon, didn’t happen,” said Navratilova.
“If she’s healthy, then US Open is her best shot at it other than Wimbledon. It’s about a 50/50 proposition at this point.”
Williams last lifted a Major trophy at the 2017 Australian Open, but has lost her last four Grand Slam title matches. The 39-year old was forced to retire in her first round match at Wimbledon in June, after slipping on the grass and suffering an ankle injury.
The US Open is slated to run from August 30-September 12, 2021.
