Spain’s tennis star
Paula Badosa was involved in a friendly
exchange of words with her best friend and world number two
Aryna Sabalenka after
her recent triumph at the
US Open. The 26-year-old is already regarded as one
of the best players currently playing in women’s tennis in the singles category
along with Poland’s Iga Swiatek.
Sabalenka recently finished the Grand Slam season on a high
as she lifted the title in New York after beating America’s Jessica Pegula in
the final in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 7-5. It was her first title at
the Flashing Meadows. After that, Sabalenka was involved in a wild celebration.
Multiple videos surfaced on social media platforms where the reigning world
number two can be seen celebrating with her current coaching staff.
Badosa, who is a close friend of the Minsk-born tennis star,
commented in a post on her official account on the social media platform X — previously
known as Twitter — where she not only praised her for her achievement but also asked
her friend to hold some celebrations. “Believe it. Crazy achievement! You are
such a strong woman! I’m really happy for you! You inspire so many people (also)
ps: please leave a bit for the rest… (specially me). Enjoy it enjoy it! You
deserve it,” she wrote. In response to that, Sabalenka confirmed that she was willing to leave some of her celebrations so that the two could enjoy it later. “Thank
you so much baby, ahah I will, but only for you,” she wrote.
Sabalenka’s triumph in New York was her second Grand Slam
title this year. Earlier in January, the 26-year-old won the Australian Open
for the second time in her career after beating China’s Zheng Qinwen in the final
in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2. Before coming to New York, Sabalenka
lifted the Cincinnati Masters after beating America’s Pegula in the final in
straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-5.
