Ons Jabeur became the first Arab woman to win a WTA title after defeating Daria Kasatkina 7-5 6-4 in the final.
The Tunisian player made history today by becoming the first Arab woman to win a WTA title. Her maiden title came at the WTA event in Birmingham where she defeated Kasatkina in straight sets. Ons has been a history maker for a long time as she became the first Arab woman to win a junior Grand Slam in 2011. Then she became the first one to make a Slam main draw.
She then became the first to make a Slam quarterfinal and finally the first to win a title. It has been something that has been long overdue for Jabeur who played two finals and lost both. One of those was in Charleston earlier in the season where she lost to Sharma.
Jabeur played great tennis all week long and she has a chance to create some more history today. She also plays in the doubles finals and she can become the first Arab woman to complete a sweep at an event. A truly inspiring story that might inspire several young girls to pick up a racquet.
The Tunisian will look to keep going and inspire more. Even Andy Roddick was impressed by her achievement which prompted the American legend to congratulate her on his official Twitter.
