Redemption. In a reverse of last year's final, @Ons_Jabeur defeats Elena Rybakina 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-1 #Wimbledon
It is official, we will get a new Wimbledon champion on Saturday as Elena Rybakina has been dumped out by Ons Jabeur who sealed a 6-7, 6-4, 6-1 win over the 2022 champion on Wednesday afternoon.
Jabeur spoke pre match about wanting her revenge after losing to Rybakina in the final of the 2022 tournament in a disheartening loss and she got just that and will now face Aryna Sabalenka in Thursday's semi-final, who will now be favourite for the title.
The other semi-final already set up sees Elina Svitolina face Marketa Vondrousova which will take place tomorrow also as the final will be confirmed.
Rybakina initially went 3-1 up in the first set but both exchanged quick breaks before Jabeur brought it back on serve which is where it remained for the remainder of the opening exchanges.
Until the final game which saw Rybakina lose her serve but Jabeur couldn't seal a set point and Rybakina turned it around to send it all the way.
Rybakina proved too much in the tie-break going 6-3 up and after Jabeur saved a couple of set points, Rybakina produced a thunderous serve to take it.
Jabeur saved three break points to begin the second set going 3-2 up and the set continued to be prolonged as Rybakina gave her no chance on her serve. But Jabeur holding meant that it went to 5-4.
Finally though a break came with precision forehands sailing down the line throughout a superb game and Jabeur found her best at the perfect time.
But that crushed the spirit of Rybakina who's serve deserted her in the last 45 minutes. The Tunisian remained composed and dealt with Rybakina's serve superbly and it falling off a cliff in many ways sealing a 6-1 deciding set and the revenge she craved.
