Rock solid 💪 @naomiosaka breezes past Collins and enters the #MiamiOpen semifinals for the first time in her career!
Naomi Osaka resumed her dominant performance at the Miami Open on Tuesday, overpowering Australian Open finalist Danielle Collins in straight sets to advance to the semifinals.
Osaka recorded a 6-2 6-1 victory over her American opponent, who appeared hobbled in the second set. Collins seemed to be having discomfort in her neck and shoulders, leading to a medical timeout after the third game of the second set.
Upon resumption, it became apparent that Collins was hindered by her injury, as the ninth seed exhibited limited movement. Furthermore, the American was seen massaging her neck and talking to the physio during changeovers. The outcome was never in doubt as Osaka won four straight games to close out the match after an hour.
Despite Collins struggles, Osaka remained poised as she dominated on serve, hitting 13 aces and winning 88% of points behind her first serve. The four-time Grand Slam champion never faced a break point, even before Collins began showing symptoms of an injury in the second set.
Reaching the semifinals in Miami for the first time, the Japanese superstar will face Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, who cruised through her quarterfinal match against Daria Saville earlier in the day.
