Naomi Osaka might have to face
Iga Swiatek in the Olympic Games quarterfinals if both of them win the matches they are supposed to do.
In a speculative exercise, the official Twitter page of the WTA took a look at the Olympic Games draw to see what potential quarterfinals we might see. One of the better ones is Naomi Osaka and Iga Swiatek who could meet in the quarterfinals if both win their matches.
They played once in 2019 and Osaka won that match in two sets despite it being very close. Another interesting matchup could be
Ashleigh Barty vs
Barbora Krejcikova. Both of them have been red hot in the past two months and are probably the two best performing players overall this year.
They played recently at Wimbledon and Barty won an excellent match in two great sets.
Aryna Sabalenka will play
Garbine Muguruza if things go according to plan for both of them and it would be a spectacular show. They played three times overall and two of those came in 2021. Muguruza leads the H2H 2-1.
The final quarterfinal if seeds win their matches would be Pliskova vs Svitolina. It's a very unpredictable quarterfinal to gauge as both are capable of brilliance but also unexplainable losses. They played 10 times so far with the score 5-5. Svitolina won the last four.
