Paula Badosa faced a tricky challenge in the first round of the Charleston Open and she proved better than Mayar Sherif 6-4 6-1.
Sherif is a very good clay player but she prefers red clay to green clay and it was quite evident today. She struggled to find a really good rhythm here against Badosa who played a really solid match. From the start, you could see that she felt quite a bit more comfortable than Sherif which was evident in the score.
The Egyptian made it a bit more interesting in the first set but Badosa managed to win it 6-4. Badosa greatly struggled on her second serve but she did really well on the first set. The Egyptian struggled even more on her second serve which allowed Badosa many chances, especially in the second set.
The second set was going really well for Badosa who was up 5-0 with the serve and a chance to send Sherif off with a bagel but she actually got broken only to break once more in the next game for the 6-1 finish.
