Spain’s tennis star Paula Badosa has been ruled out of the upcoming WTA National Bank Open (Canadian Open).
The 25-year-old suffered a stress fracture earlier this year which ruled her out of the French Open.
She did make a return for Wimbledon but even there she ended up retiring in the second-round clash against Marta Kostyuk.
Badosa was expecting to return to the Canadian Open in order to prepare for the US Open but she has now suffered a setback and is now out of the WTA event.
The New York-born announced the development in a story on her official Instagram account where she expressed optimism of returning to action in the near future.
"Small update: Still trying my best to comeback as soon as possible but pain is still there. I'm going to be some weeks out of the competition. [It has been a hard time] but hopefully I can comeback soon. Thanks for support."
The development will be a major blow for Badosa who, despite turning pro eight years back in 2015, is still looking to win her first major title.
Her best outing in any of the Grand Slams came in the French Open in 2021 where she was defeated in the quarterfinal by Tamara Zidansek with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 6-8.
