Renata Zarazua showed off the painful results of the Australian sun as her preparation continued ahead of the Australian Open. The Mexican had been preparing for next week's tournament by playing the Hobart International this week.
Despite advancing through qualifiers for the tournament to reach the first round, it seems she has been feeling the heat in Tasmania this week. The 28-year-old took to her Instagram to show off a picture of her back showing that she had suffered sunburn.
Her shoulders were covered in pretty bad looking burns with the Mexican ace captioning it: "The Australian sun is no joke".
Albeit in Tasmania, it hasn't soared to the heat that other parts of Australia have. It has gone to the mid 40's in Victoria but in Tasmania they have topped out at around 26 degrees this past week.
However the UV index has sat at between 8 and 11 on the scale which is considered to be 'very high' hence why the temperature hasn't perhaps mirrored the reason for her harsh sun burn. She saw off Hiroko Kuwata in straight sets on Saturday in her first qualifying match before taking down Simona Waltert 6-4, 6-3 in her second qualifying tie.
She was taken the distance by Hailey Baptiste but after losing a first set tie-break she has advanced. Albeit she now faces off against rising 18-year-old Iva Jovic who swept aside Janice Tjen with relative ease in her last round and will be favourite to win again. Albeit Zarazua has form this season winning the Austin 125 in November and she also won the WTT W100 in October seeing off Olivia Gadecki and Emerson Jones.
This after she took down Madison Keys at the US Open in one of her biggest wins ever. But it seems sun burn is her latest issue and not in fact winning matches.
