Petra Kvitova faced
Madison Keys for the 9th time in her career and the Czech was able to come back and win the match in three 6-7(6) 6-4 6-3.
The first set was a very close one as both players played really well. Keys jumped out to an early 3-1 lead because she was in a better rhythm to start the match. Kvitova eventually found herself and she pulled the break back. From there we mainly saw rather dominant serving performances by both. In the tiebreak, it was Keys who had the upper hand for most of it and she won it 8-6.
Kvitova actually served worse in the 2nd set but she played far better from the baseline. She jumped out to an early 3-1 lead and continued applying heavy pressure on her opponent which Keys did not handle too well. The American is known to have up and down periods like this in a match, especially when pushed by her opponent.
Kvitova failed to serve out the 2nd set at 5-2 but she was able to do so at 5-4. The final set opened with Kvitova breaking Keys early and taking a 2-0 lead. Her chance to get back into the match came at 4-3 for Kvitova as Keys had 40-0 on the serve of Kvitova. She failed to use it as the Czech player held for a 5-3 lead closing out 6-4.
