Petra Kvitova has not had the best of seasons in 2021 and the Czech player announced she would not play for her country in the
Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Prague in December.
With the event's venue moving to Prague the extremely strong Czech Team emerged as a favourite to win the event as they have in the past. A player key for the country is Petra Kvitova who lead them to glory before but this time around she won't be there. Kvitova announced the decision by saying:
"I have told the team captain I wouldn't play. I'll play two or three tournaments in the rest of the season and then I need to rest. This year has been tough mentally and physically, I've had lots of
injuries and my body can't cope with it anymore."
Kvitova explained that the decision was not easy saying:
"Of course, this decision wasn't easy, but I have to think about myself, I'm not the youngest one. We've got young girls and I believe they will take care of it. Of course, I would like to play but I need my time off in order to manage the next few seasons."
Kvitova admitted that life during the pandemic on tour has been very draining and she became the 2nd tennis player recently to publicly admit struggling with it after Stefanos Tsitsipas. She said:
"All those bubbles we were in cost me a lot of strength, playing
without people is like training for me and I'm not exactly the training
type."
