The 2023 Hana Bank
Korea Open is one of the final tournaments of the WTA season and will be a final chance to see
Jessica Pegula before the WTA Finals.
Pegula leads the field in Seoul over the next week, with likely an interesting reason behind her leading the field and deciding to play in the small WTA 250 over Zhengzhou or even Hong Kong.
Family ties for Pegula
Pegula as an American has ties to Korea with her mother, Kim who owns the Buffalo Bills alongside her father hence the moniker of richest tennis player and had a cardiac arrest last year was born in Seoul.
As a result, it is likely a special week incoming for Pegula who will play the tournament for only the second time in her career.
Jelena Ostapenko is the only other big seed. Ekaterina Alexandrova, Sofia Kenin, Katie Boulter are also among those playing.
Ostapenko in particular played the tournament last year and reached the final as well as being the 2017 champion.
But Pegula will be favourite to add yet another title and head towards the WTA Finals with a confidence booster in a tournament win that will be special to her.
Watch out for the American number two in Seoul over the next week.
