Venus Williams is set to make her return to the tennis court at the Jasmin Open in Tunisia, where she will also partner with Ons Jabeur in the doubles event.
The 7-time Grand Slam champion last played at the US Open, where she suffered a first-round defeat against Greet Minnen with a score of 6-1, 6-1. Her disappointing performance at Flushing Meadows followed some promising showings on grass and hardcourt surfaces.
Despite not achieving significant results, the 43-year-old Venus Williams demonstrated that she still possesses the skill level to challenge her opponents. She secured victories over players like Camila Giorgi and Veronika Kudermetova, and even managed to take sets from formidable opponents such as Jelena Ostapenko and Qinwen Zheng.
Following the conclusion of this year's Grand Slam events, Venus Williams had not revealed her plans for the rest of the season or whether she would continue competing in 2024. It was known that she had not entered any tournaments on the Asian swing of the tour.
Now, it has been confirmed that we will see 'Queen V' back on the courts starting from Monday, October 16th, after she received a Wild Card invitation to the Jasmin Open in Tunisia. The tournament's top seed will be the local favorite, Ons Jabeur, who also received a Wild Card entry into the singles main draw.
Furthermore, it has been confirmed that Williams and Jabeur will team up in the doubles event. The last time Venus played doubles was at the 2022 US Open when she partnered with her sister Serena before Serena's retirement.
In fact, while Serena was preparing for Wimbledon last year, she teamed up with Jabeur at the Eastbourne Open, where they won two matches and reached the semifinals before withdrawing to avoid potential physical issues.
As a result, the new pairing of Jabeur and Williams will compete together for the first time in over a year, with both having Serena Williams as their last doubles partner, who is a 23-time Grand Slam champion.
