Day Four of the 2023
WTA Finals in Cancun will take place today, November 1, as the Chetumal Group continues with
Iga Swiatek facing
Coco Gauff while
Ons Jabeur takes on
Marketa Vondrousova for spots in the semi-finals.
Firstly, Swiatek will take on Gauff at the 2023 WTA Finals in another epic battle. The pair have faced each other nine times in the past, with the four-time Grand Slam champion currently leading their head-to-head 8-1. Gauff scored her first win against the Polish player earlier this year but Swiatek took revenge by winning their most recent clash at the China Open last month.
In their first-round matches at the WTA Finals, Swiatek defeated Vondrousova 7-6 (3), 6-0, while Gauff flew past Jabeur 6-0, 6-1.
While Gauff's astounding athleticism and excellent court coverage will help her against Swiatek's strong offensive game and powerful groundstrokes, the latter's dominant lead in their head-to-head suggests that she is likely to win this match.
Jabeur faces Vondrousova in Wimbledon final re-match
Following this, sixth seed Jabeur will face seventh seed Vondrousova in a re-match of the Wimbledon final, where the latter defeated the former 6-4, 6-4.
Both players lost their first-round clashes, meaning they will be motivated to redeem themselves in this match. The Czech player narrowly leads their head-to-head 4-3 and has won their last three encounters, with the most recent being Wimbledon.
Jabeur will be looking to use her versatility to create difficult angles and give her opponent no time to retaliate. Moreover, her slices and drop shots should work to her advantage.
However, Vondrousova will be using her solid baseline game and powerful groundstrokes to try and overwhelm Jabeur, meaning the Wimbledon champion could be more likely to emerge victorious from what may be a tight battle.
