Garbine Muguruza has been gone from tennis for over a year with the World No.1 stating on multiple occasions also that she has not intention of returning yet to the sport after taking a hiatus in April last year following a loss in the Lyon Open which was a fourth consecutive defeat. But she is back on a tennis court at least judging by her recent Instagram story.
Muguruza said in April last year that she does not intend to return until at least July or August of that year which meant that she would miss Roland Garros and Wimbledon at least. But this turned into indefinite as she had time away to recharge and regroup and spending time with her family and friends was more pressing to her as well as other hobbies than playing tennis.
Outside of tennis, she took up Zumba instructing so continues to keep fit and also announced her engagement to her long-time boyfriend, Arthur Borges. Tennis fans have missed the Spaniard though so this could be a tease or could merely be wishful thinking as she shared a video of her hitting on a tennis court again.
"Today I have no intention of returning. My plan right now is to sleep, rest, be with my loved ones, make up for lost time. I don't see beyond what I'm doing today, tomorrow and this week," she said in October last year extending her hiatus.
But recently she reiterated that point when asked about potentially playing at the Paris Olympics. "I have taken a break, a sabbatical year. It was good for me, I needed it. The competition and the trips are very hard. We have to see how the issue of playing, not playing, develops. I let time pass and that's it. Little by little," she said.
