Return of BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells confirmed with 2021 WTA fall calendar update

The WTA have released an update on their calendar for the rest of the regular tour events from mid September through to October.
In terms of the WTA Finals, this is still under the review with an announcement forthcoming in the next few weeks. The update concerns tournaments from the US Open until the end of the regular season.
There will be four new fall tournaments taking place in Portoroz (Slovenia), Chicago (USA), Tenerife (Spain) and Courmayeur (Italy) as well as the return of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells following the cancellation of the WTA 1000 in 2020.
It will be a mixture of WTA 250, 500 and 1000 tournaments with it starting in Luxembourg and Portoroz before taking in Ostrava and Seoul from September 20.
Chicago follows as a WTA 500 on September 27 before Indian Wells takes place between October 4-11. A 500 in Moscow takes place alongside a 250 in Tenerife the week after before the season ends in Courmayeur in October 25.
  • Week 37 (September 13) – WTA 250 tournaments in Luxembourg and Portoroz
  • Week 38 (September 20) – WTA 500 in Ostrava and WTA 250 in Seoul
  • Week 39 (September 27) – WTA 500 tournament in Chicago
  • Week 40/41 (October 4/11) – WTA 1000 in Indian Wells will take place over two weeks with a 96-player draw size
  • Week 42 (October 18) – WTA 500 Moscow and WTA 250 in Tenerife
  • Week 43 (October 25) – WTA 250 tournament in Courmayeur
