Roland Garros 2020 Thursday Schedule of play - WTA Semifinal day with Swiatek - Podoroska and Kenin - Kvitova

This eventfull Roland Garros is coming to a close with the semifinals on thursday as the schedule of play has Swiatek play Podoroska while Kenin faces Kvitova.

Semifinals day at a Grand Slam is the penultimate day of the event and the Roland Garros semifinals day is today. The WTA got the honour to host it's semifinal day first and it will start at 15:00 CET with a match between Iga Swiatek and Nadia Podoroska. Looking back at the start of the event nobody would have guessed to see those two players at the semifinal but here they are. They never played against each other but Swiatek had an impressive run at the French Open not even dropping a set en route to the semifinal.

Several impressive victories like the one against Halep is also a thing to note. Podoroska on the other hand has lost sets before but her run is nothing short of impressive either. She is the first qualifier to reach the semifinal with her first match in Paris dating back to the 22nd of September. The odds favour Swiatek as they should but Podoroska has a certain ferocity in her game which can be dangerous.

The 2nd semifinal features objectively a more fascinating match as Sofia Kenin will take on Petra Kvitova. For Kenin it's her first semifinal appearance at the Roland Garros which is a huge succes for a player who grew up disliking clay. For Kvitova it's a stunning run as well considering what has happened to her in the past and what i took to come back to this stage. The match is set to start at 16:30 CET and for Kenin it will be a huge test. She played only one match out of the 5 it took to get here where she didn't drop a set so she has overcome adversity before.

For Kvitova it's the result of a great run where she never dropped a set. She has been serving well and playing well fighting back in matches where she was losing early. That spirit will be needed against the always feisty Kenin. The odds favour Kvitova slightly but it's hard prediciting who will win in this clash of similar styles. They played twice before, one on hard courts and on on clay nad both matches were won by Kvitova.
