Canadian Open (National Bank) in Montreal is set to resume with an incomplete match after rain
interrupted play on Tuesday.
The much-anticipated clash between the world number three Elena
Rybakina of Kazakhstan and America’s
Jennifer Brady will resume after it was
halted because of the poor weather.
The match was nicely poised at 6-6 in the first set when the
game was stopped with showers and slight drizzle.
While Rybakina was awarded a place straight into the second
round of the competition, Brady won the first-round fixture against Latvia’s Jeļena
Ostapenko in three sets with a score of 7-6, 0-6, 7-6 on Monday.
The day also witnessed some key players withdrawing from the
competition. America’s Madison Keys was one of them as she will not take any
further part in the tournament because of a glute injury she sustained during
her round of 64 win against Venus Williams.
On the other hand, the former world number one Belarus’ Victoria
Azarenka has also been ruled out of the competition with an abdominal injury.
