Aryna Sabalenka produce an act of escapology to reach the third round of the 2022
US Open on Friday evening defeating
Kaia Kanepi 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 but the scoreline didn't tell the full story.
Sabalenka, the sixth seed at Flushing Meadows was down 2-6, 1-5 and then faced two match points in the second set tie-break but somehow survived to force a decider.
In that decider, she took it 6-4 albeit bringing drama all the way until the conclusion with a ten minute final game featuring 2/10 double faults.
Relief was etched all over the face of the Belarusian as she sat on court at the conclusion and the 2021 semi-finalist will next face either Clara Burel or Alison van Uytvanck with the shocks being present in the WTA draw opening up another potential opportunity.
