Aryna
Sabalenka,
Coco Gauff, Marketa Vondrousova, and Karolina Muchova were the major
beneficiaries in the WTA Ranking following the conclusion of the
US Open.
After the
last Grand Slam of the year, the points distributed by the WTA caused
significant changes in the rankings. The primary beneficiary was Aryna
Sabalenka, who, despite losing in the tournament's final, became the new world
No. 1 after Iga Swiatek did not defend her title.
The second
significant beneficiary was Coco Gauff, the standout champion of the week, who
secured her first Grand Slam title at the age of 19. She earned 2000 points,
propelling her to the world No. 3 ranking, just behind Sabalenka and Swiatek.
The top 10
also witnessed notable changes due to the impressive performances of the Czech
players Marketa Vondrousova and Karolina Muchova, both of whom had outstanding
seasons and made significant strides in the rankings.
Vondrousova,
as the Wimbledon champion and now a quarterfinalist at the US Open, climbed
three positions to reach world No. 6.
Her
compatriot Muchova advanced from world No. 10 to No. 8, surpassing Maria
Sakkari and Caroline Garcia in the rankings. These shifts reflect the dynamic
nature of women's tennis and the impact of their remarkable achievements during
the tournament.
Another
player who achieved her career-best ranking is Italian Jasmine Paolini. Despite
her first-round exit, she didn't have points to defend, and several players who
lost points ended up behind her.
Two other
notable performers were young 21-year-olds: American Peyton Stearns, who
reached the fourth round and moved from world No. 55 to No. 44.
On the
other hand, Chinese player Xinyu Wang, also 21 years old, made it to the fourth
round and climbed 14 spots in the rankings to reach world No. 39. She became
the third Chinese player in the top 50, joining Lin Zhu and Qinwen Zheng.
These
rankings changes reflect the impact of their performances at the US Open and
highlight the promising talent emerging in women's tennis, with players from
various countries making strides in the rankings.
