Although
Iga Swiatek has been a dominant force on the WTA tour this season, the Polish star could end up losing the World No.1 spot by the conclusion of the
US Open.
The final Grand Slam of the season kicks off on August 28th, 2023, with Swiatek having a huge target on her back as she aims to defend her title. Among the superstars gunning for the Polish star is World No.2
Aryna Sabalenka, who could assume the top spot in the WTA rankings by the end of the US Open.
Sabalenka could attain the World No.1 ranking with a better result than her Polish rival
Although the Belarusian squandered her chance at the top ranking when she lost in the semifinals of Wimbledon, Sabalenka has another chance at achieving this new career milestone at Flushing Meadows.
Excluding the points won by both last year at the US Open, where Swiatek won the tournament by beating, among others, Sabalenka in the semifinals, the Pole will start from 7955 points and the Belarusian from 7966 points. Therefore, the player able to achieve the better result in New York will be World No.1 at the end of the tournament.
