The
schedule is confirmed and another day is upon us at the
DC Open (Mubadala Citi DC Open for sponsorship reasons) with Tuesday 30 July seeing a myriad of top names in action. Our
preview looks ahead to Day Two in Washington and the top ties.
A lot of American names start their charge as well as the matter of
Paula Badosa v
Sofia Kenin as one of the leading ties to watch on Day Two.
Tiafoe, Azarenka, Kenin-Badosa among leading ties
Starting off proceedings on Stadium is J.J Wolf who faces off against Miomir Kecmanovic and it is a trio of Americans in a row. Taylor Townsend only got into the tournament late due to Anna Kalinskaya withdrawing so in reality, it was set to be an all Russian battle.
But now it is the American who faces Anastasia Potapova, the ninth seed. Then it is
Victoria Azarenka who will begin her campaign. Her first since pre Wimbledon. She faces Hailey Baptiste and like her fellow returning Belarusian, it was a shoulder problem last time out that hindered her from playing Wimbledon.
Frances Tiafoe tried to downplay his clown comments during his press conference but will hope not to continue losing to lesser ranked players. Daniel Elahi Galan awaits before the main event on the show court as Paula Badosa aims to continue her resurgence. She faces off against Sofia Kenin.
Out on other courts, it is Sebastian Korda, Peyton Stearns and Adrian Mannarino v Denis Shapovalov that also catch the eye. Doubles also takes prime interest. This includes the team of Genie Bouchard and Sloane Stephens.
Bouchard is getting ready for another tennis return when she plays qualifying over the next few days for Canada and she is supposedly seeking a doubles wildcard also with Stephens for that tournament. So it could be a return of this team who have been together in the past.
