It was a sensational week for Aryna Sabalenka who cruised her way to the final in which she defeated the reigning number one Ashleigh Barty
It was a sensational display in the final by Sabalenka who won her 4th WTA 1000 title and the first one on clay and European soil. The Belarussian was fabulous early winning the first set 6-0. A true masterclass of tennis against the number one Barty who was sensational all week long as well.
Barty came back strong in the 2nd set which she won with 6-3 playing much better. She employed a similar style as in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix final which she won. That match went to three sets just like this one and Barty was able to win it after a close 3rd set.
This match featured another close set where Barty played better early. The Australian player controlled her service games much better and she carved out two break points as well. Sabalenka saved both and that proved key as Barty's level dropped off after that.
The Belarussian player was able to win some rallies on Barty serve before we arrived at the key moment in the match at 4-4. Barty served and she lost her serve fairly easily which positioned Sabalenka to serve for the match. She was composed and closed it out with 6-4.
A very strong match by Sabalenka who overcame an in-form Barty to clinch her 10th career title. Congratulations.
