Serena Williams might be heading to Tunisia in the future upon the invite of the country's best tennis player Ons Jabeur with whom Williams played doubles last year.
Serena Williams surprisingly announced her comeback ahead of last year's Wimbledon. The legendary player opted to play only one event leading up to Wimbledon and only doubles. It was the Eastbourne event and Williams played with Jabeur. She chose the Tunisian which left her stunned as she explained last year:
"It's crazy, you know. Why me from all the players? She chose a girl from Tunisia. Her story's really inspiring. She gave a lot of women a voice. To be able to play next to her pushes me to do better and maybe tell my own story."
She also extended an invite to Williams to visit Tunisia, same way she extended an invite to Venus Williams who loves Jabuer:
"Serena, you have to come to Tunisia. I already invited Venus. She told me she loves traveling."
Williams seems open to that:
"Be careful, because I'm going to take you up on that. You gonna show me a good time? We're going to come. We're going to live our lives."
So there you have it, if you see Williams in Tunisia one of these days, you know why. The duo didn't go all the way at the event but it was a nice experience for Jabeur who didn't get many chances to stand on a court with Williams. Especially as the American retired from teh sport a few months ago at the US Open without any intention of coming back to it.
She's currently expecting her second child as well so perhaps after she gives birth, we'll see Williams checking out some landmarks in Tunisia, standing on the soil where ancient Carthage once stood.
