Being constantly in the public eye, one may assume to know a lot about 23-time Grand Slam champion
Serena Williams, especially as social media allows fans to engage with and keep track of their favorite athletes.
However, Williams revealed that there is a lot of her life which she doesn't share with the public. In a recent interview with Refinery29, the former World No.1 admitted to suffering from debilitating migraines during her career.
“I've dealt with migraines my entire adult life,” revealed Williams. “In the past, I would get about two migraine attacks per month. There's a lot of stuff to do, my tennis career, being a mom, my various business ventures. And I think stress has a lot to do with it.”
This chronic ailment has led to the 39-year old teaming up with UBRELVY, which is a prescription migraine medication. Williams even plays herself in an ad for the brand, recreating the time she suffered a severe migraine attack in the middle of an important meeting.
“I just remember being in this meeting and just not being able to function," recalls Williams. "So, for me that was a huge turning point.”
The World No.21 will be looking to capture a record-tying 24th Grand Slam title at the
US Open, which runs from August 30 - September 12, 2021.
