Elena Rybakina jumps up after winning Stuttgart
Top seeds Elena Rybakina and Marta Kostyuk extended a growing trend on the WTA Tour on Sunday, securing titles in Stuttgart and Rouen to make it seven consecutive tournaments won by No. 1 seeds in their respective draws. The sequence, which has held since early March, highlights a period of sustained control from top-ranked players across different surfaces and tournament levels.
Rybakina’s victory at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix came via a 7–5, 6–1 win over Karolina Muchova, delivering her second title of the 2026 season and the 13th of her career. The Kazakh, currently world No. 2, also secured her second Stuttgart crown, reinforcing her consistency at the WTA 500 level and strengthening her position ahead of the main clay-court swing.
At the same time, Kostyuk lifted the title at the Open Rouen with a 6–3, 6–4 win over Veronika Podrez, maintaining the run of top seeds converting their status into trophies. Her result adds to a broader pattern in recent weeks, where leading players have translated ranking position into consistent tournament success, limiting opportunities for lower-seeded contenders to break through.
The run began at Indian Wells, where Aryna Sabalenka claimed the title, and has continued through Miami, Charleston, Bogota, Linz, Stuttgart and Rouen. Across those seven events, the No. 1 seeds have combined for a perfect 35–0 match record.

Top seeds maintain perfect record across seven events

The current sequence began at Indian Wells, where Aryna Sabalenka went undefeated across six matches to claim the title. She followed that run by repeating the same result in Miami, completing the Sunshine Double without dropping a match and setting the foundation for the streak.
The trend continued in Charleston, where Jessica Pegula secured the title as the top seed, followed by Marie Bouzkova in Bogotá and Mirra Andreeva in Linz. Each of those tournaments added to the sequence, extending the run across different surfaces and conditions.
Rybakina and Kostyuk’s titles in Stuttgart and Rouen have now brought the total to seven consecutive tournaments. Across those events, top seeds have combined for a 35–0 match record, reflecting consistent conversion of ranking status into titles rather than isolated results.

Tight matches underline margins behind streak

Despite the clean record, several moments within the streak have come under pressure. In the Indian Wells final, Sabalenka saved match point against Rybakina before closing out the title in three sets, underlining the narrow margins involved even at the highest level.
Rybakina faced a similar situation in Stuttgart, saving two match points against Leylah Fernandez in the quarter-finals before progressing to the title. Matches of that nature illustrate that the outcome has often depended on key points rather than sustained dominance throughout.
Other tournaments in the sequence also featured extended matches. Pegula required multiple three-set victories in Charleston before winning the final in straight sets, while Bouzkova and Andreeva each navigated competitive draws despite holding top seeding positions.
The focus now shifts to the upcoming WTA 1000 events in Madrid and Rome, where Sabalenka is expected to lead the field as the top seed. Madrid has historically been one of her stronger tournaments, with multiple titles and finals, while Rome remains one of the few major clay events where she has yet to win the title.
