Elena Rybakina jumps up after winning Stuttgart
The WTA Rankings have been updated after this past week of action at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix also known as the Stuttgart Open and we reach a vital and pivotal impasse of the season as Madrid and Rome approach before Roland Garros.
In particular for defending and adding points, it is prime season and will be for the Stuttgart champion Elena Rybakina who may on paper still look a hell of a long way back but in reality isn't as Sabalenka has Madrid to defend this week so if she doesn't win the title will drop points.
Rybakina won Strasbourg but otherwise has gone through a lot in the past 12 months which now works in her favour as she defends very little. She sits just under 2,400 points back and has gained 392 points onto her tally for winning the title.
Mirra Andreeva also had an effective week. She reached the semi's in Stuttgart and is now up to World No.9 and has scope to rise further given that Paolini now defends a wedge of points from Rome winning the title last year. Victoria Mboko did not play this week so is the cork in the bottle and sits in 10th.
Karolina Muchova put some distance between herself and Ekaterina Alexandrova in 12th and 13th but the Czech ace's main goal of course will be to be back in the top 10 and she is likely to do that shortly given again she won't defend too much in the clay court season. She was injured for part of last year and as ever with Muchova doesn't ever defend too much until the US swing where she comes alive at Flushing Meadows.
She had a terrific week though and showed that outside the leading two in Rybakina and Sabalenka that she is very much up there in contention going into Roland Garros. A fascinating one to think about given her pedigree on clay reaching the French Open final in the past as to what she can do if Stuttgart hasn't taken too much out as she heads to Madrid and Rome.

Another great week for Muchova.
Not only was there Stuttgart as Rouen also took place won by Marta Kostyuk. She rises up five spots to World No.23 as she looks to rebuild. Further down with drops for Emma Navarro and Maya Joint. It is Emma Raducanu ironically without playing since Indian Wells and again this next week that benefits. She shifts up two spots to World No.27.

Ostapenko the big loser, what does Rome have in store

Jelena Ostapenko was the big loser this week going down 18 spots after not defending Stuttgart. She shoots down to World No.40. Zeynep Sonmez impressed again despite losing early in Stuttgart and moved up 12 to 67th someone to watch out on. Elena-Gabriela Ruse fell 10 spots to World No.71. While Eva Lys started to rebuild in her first win for sometime after injury. She goes up six to World No.72.
Rises also for Alycia Parks (No.84 up 11) while Veronika Podrez who reached the Rouen final is up 62 spots to World No.147 in a landmark week for the 19-year-old in an all Ukrainian final.
Onto Madrid we go! Already with points dropped, Rybakina could close in on World No.1 if she wins the title. Iga Swiatek also retakes World No.3 currently with points dropped after an early loss last year. While Elina Svitolina is down two if she doesn't defend her points to ninth. Karolina Muchova is the cork in the bottle so to speak and same for Mboko, the former defends nothing. Mboko defends 22 points so if they both gain it is good for future rankings.
