Maria Sharapova defeated Alison Riske in the first round of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, and so she will be facing Barty in the second round.

The former world no.1 is working on returning to the women's throne, but so far she is sitting only on 97th position and fails to deliver her best tennis.
The Russian is currently playing at the Cincinnati tournament, where she beat Alison Riske 6-3, 7-6 (4) in the first round. And so she will be facing Ashleigh Barty in the second round.
The two former world no.1's have met twice already and both managed to win once. In both cases, it was a 3 set match.
After the match with Riske, Sharapova spoke about Aussie. "She's been dominating. She's one of the few players that have really dominated and has been impressive to see." she said for WTAtennis.com.
She went on to talk about the lack of matches she played this season: "I'm the one coming in with not a lot of match play, but I'll have to figure it out. If not, it's going to be too late."
