Although fifth seed Mirra Andreev suffered a shocking opening round exit at the 2025
Wuhan Open, renowned tennis coach
Rick Macci is of the opinion that the Russian star will still ascend to the top of the WTA Tour.
Andreeva fell to unseeded German
Laura Siegemund in their round of 32 clash on Tuesday, with Siegemund battling from a set down to record a 6-7(4) 6-3 6-3 victory. This was the latest upset in what has been a disappointing month for the 18-year old.
The Russian star was in superb form at the start of the 2025 season. Andreeva won consecutive WTA 1000 titles at Dubai and Indian Wells earlier this year, before reaching the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, a career-best performance.
However, Andreeva would under a slew of upset losses after SW19. After reaching a career-high ranking of World No.5, Andreeva would lose in the third round to American McCartney Kessler at the Canadian Open.
Andreeva's woes continue through the US Open and Asian swing
The Indian Wells champion would fall to American Taylor Townsend in straight sets in the third round at the US Open. Subsequently, Andreeva lost to unseeded British player Sonay Kartal in the round of 16 at the China Open, before falling to the 37-year old Siegemund in Wuhan.
Nonetheless, famous tennis coach Rick Macci, who has coached the likes of Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, still has faith in Andreeva's potential. The American believes Andreeva will overcome this minor bump in her career, and predicted Grand Slam success for the 18-year old in the near future.
"Andreeva is SO competitive [and that] is why she blows a fuse and she is only 18 but just hates to lose," wrote Macci on Twitter. “She is wired for greatness and that temper will become her best friend, and the Russian Rabbit will NO DOUBT be number one in the end."
