Erika
Andreeva, the elder sister of the young star
Mirra Andreeva, will compete in
the final of the WTA 125 Rouen.
It has been
a remarkable week for the 19-year-old, as she reached her first final in a WTA
125 event. Although she is almost three years older than her sister Mirra Andreeva, who has been the breakout sensation of the season, Erika hadn’t
previously displayed the same level of talent to break into the WTA Tour.
Erika
Andreeva, currently ranked 166th, slowly made her way into the main draws of
some 250-level tournaments and had even competed in the main draws of two Grand
Slam events (the 2022 US Open and the 2023 French Open).
She began
this tournament from the qualifying rounds and has won five consecutive
matches. In the first round, she narrowly escaped defeat against Jil Teichmann,
securing the victory in the third-set tie-break.
Andreeva
has been in great form in the subsequent rounds, losing only 14 games in three
matches, which includes victories over the 4th seed Jodie Anna Burrage (ranked
91st) and the 5th seed Alize Cornet (ranked 121st).
In the
final, she will face Switzerland's Viktorija Golubic, who is currently ranked
105th. This final provides
Erika Andreeva with the opportunity to claim her
first title in the WTA 125 category, as she has previously won titles in
lower-level ITF tournaments.
Sisters
Tennis Players:
Throughout
tennis history, there have been numerous examples of siblings who pursued
tennis careers, with the iconic duo of Venus and Serena Williams leading the
way. The Williams sisters won 13 Grand Slam doubles titles together, in
addition to Serena's 23 Grand Slam singles titles and Venus's 7.
Other
renowned tennis-playing siblings include Urszula and Agnieszka Radwańska, the
Pliskova twins, Krystina and Karolina, as well as the Rodionova sisters,
Anastasia and Arina.
More
recently, we've seen promising young sibling pairs like Bianca and Leylah
Fernandez, as well as Brenda and Linda Fruhvirtova, who are making their mark
in the sport.
