Holger Rune shared photos of himself training with Boris Becker in Monaco, leading to speculation about a potential partnership.
Rune has been going through a challenging period in his tennis career, with several months of declining performance. The last time the Danish player secured consecutive wins was at Wimbledon, where he reached the round of 16 before falling to the eventual champion, Carlos Alcaraz (7-6, 6-4, 6-4).
Since then, Rune has won just one match in the past three months and decided to part ways with Patrick Mouratoglou, who had been coaching him since late 2022, though Rune had always worked alongside his other coach, Lars Christensen. Ultimately, Rune chose to retain Christensen, a decision that reportedly stemmed from internal conflicts between the coaches.
As the World No. 5, Rune has little room for error in the season's final stretch. He must also defend his title at the last Masters 1000 event of the year in Paris-Bercy, and any unfavorable results could result in a drop in the rankings.
According to information from Tennis Connected, the world's fifth-ranked player may attempt to reverse his current trend by adding Boris Becker to his coaching team.
The German tennis legend previously served as the captain of the German Davis Cup team and worked with Novak Djokovic from 2013 to 2016, during which time the Serbian player won six Grand Slam titles.
Holger Rune's upcoming schedule includes the following weeks: first, he will compete in the ATP 250 Stockholm Open, followed by the ATP 500 Basel Open, and finally, he will aim to defend his title in Paris-Bercy.
With the end of the season just weeks away, Rune's participation in the ATP Finals is in jeopardy. Currently, he is in 8th place in the Race, meaning he would secure the last qualifying spot. However, he is closely pursued by Taylor Fritz and Casper Ruud, who could potentially surpass Rune if they perform well in their upcoming tournaments.
