Karolina
Muchova provided a hilarious response about which song she would play on the
guitar after her victory at the
US Open.
The Czech tennis
player reached the quarterfinals of the US Open for the first time in her
career, making this the only Grand Slam where she hadn't reached the round of
eight previously. Muchova has won nine of her last ten matches, with her only
loss coming against Coco Gauff in the final of the Cincinnati Open.
On Sunday,
Muchova secured a hard-fought victory with a scoreline of 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 against
the world No. 53, Xinyu Wang. In her previous matches, she hadn't dropped a set
against Storm Sanders, Magdalena French, and Taylor Townsend.
During the
post-match on-court interview, Muchova was asked about the guitar song she'd
like to play and delivered a hilarious response:
“If you
were to play a guitar song to us, what would you play?”
“I would
choose some AC/DC song. Highway to Hell,” Muhova respond.
In the
quarterfinals, she will face the world No. 30, Sorana Cirstea, whom she holds a
3-1 head-to-head advantage against. They recently clashed at the Canadian Open
less than a month ago, with Muchova emerging victorious with a score of 7-5,
6-4.
As a result
of her performance, the world No. 10 is set to move up one spot in the WTA
rankings, although the official rankings update will be confirmed at the
conclusion of the US Open. Nevertheless, it's worth noting that Muchova
currently ranks seventh in the WTA Race.
If she
advances, it would be the second time this year that Muchova reaches the
semifinals of a Grand Slam. She previously made it to the final of the French
Open, although she ultimately fell to the world No. 1, Iga Swiatek, in a
closely contested match with a scoreline of 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.
