Paula Badosa has shared a message on
social media surrounding the grave situation her tennis career is currently experiencing. However, despite the concern after again dropping out of the top 100, she is determined to fight on and get back to where she belongs.
Injuries have really taken its toll on the former world number two. A highly rated tennis player by many, the Spaniard is a former WTA 1000 champion, winning the Indian Wells title back in 2021, along with more on-court successes and triumphs.
It is only a small amount of what it could have been due to continuous injury setbacks. Going into 2025, Badosa looked to have turned a corner. She had a period on the court where she gained some much-needed rhythm and momentum, reaching the semi-final stage of the Australian Open.
Once more though, her progress was cruelly halted. It was stop-start again as back injuries really cost her throughout the year, seeing her miss the US Open and other big tournaments. She looked to have enjoyed a very solid offseason as she built up fitness and resilience on court, but that has not been transferred over to match scenarios.
Badosa motivated to keep pushing on
After a second round exit at the
Miami Open at the hands of Iva Jovic, Badosa has dropped out of the top 100 in the live rankings. Down to 113th after the points from her fourth round appearance last year came off, it is back to square one for Badosa.
An emotional Badosa took to Instagram to share her raw feelings with her fans and followers. "Fear. How brutal it is," she wrote. "Sometimes I feel like I can't control the voices inside me. The emotions are too much, and I find myself overwhelmed. Doubts take hold of me, and I feel lost in a sea of emotions."
While these painful feelings will drag her down, she will not relent. "There's one thing I'm clear about… I'll always try with all my strength. I'll do whatever it takes. I won't be remembered for winning the most titles, but I want to be remembered for this. For these moments. For showing that Paula was able to come through. Because once again, I'm going to prove that I can come through. It'll be really tough, but I promise I'll keep going until I do."
There is a possibility the injuries continue and she never reaches that ceiling many predicted her to eventually climb to, but that is a side issue for Badosa. She will keep pushing on. "And even if things don't work out right now, and there are a thousand opinions... I'll keep going. And keep going. Paula isn't back... but she will be."
Her clay swing last year was also ravaged by injury, opening up a window where she can try to gain some points on the board with some valuable wins. It may be a long process and baby footsteps at the start may temper expectations, but Badosa will do everything in her strength to fight on in this sport despite whatever is thrown at her. She will stick around in the USA for the time being to commence her clay swing in the Charleston Open before making the trip to Europe to compete in the Rouen Open.
