Two of Poland's greatest female players in
Iga Swiatek and
Agnieszka Radwanska came to blows earlier in the month, when the latter suggested that the World No.1 should tough it out schedule wise and play Billie Jean King Cup.
Swiatek decided against going down the route of Elena Rybakina and Marketa Vondrousova and snubbed the tie in Glasgow after the WTA Finals.
"She would not participate in all meetings, but the most important ones," Radwanska said in November.
Had to make a selfish decision - Swiatek
But Swiatek took the point of view that she had to make a selfish decision in this case and that Radwanska likely did so to play in the national team in her career so the opposite viewpoint should be appreciated. This amid the backdrop of scheduling being constantly in focus in the WTA and the letter being sent into the Chairman, Steve Simon during Cancun.
"I treated this statement calmly. Some words are taken out of context, I have experienced this myself several times. Agnieszka knows how to function on a tour, what the burdens are, she knows this perspective," Swiatek told SportoweFakty.
"She knows that sometimes you have to make a more selfish decision that will later help you avoid problems that will affect everyone. Agnieszka expressed her opinion in the context that she herself had sacrificed many times for the national team.
"A similar attitude must certainly be appreciated. However, I have the impression that in the past all this was not analyzed so carefully and some things were easier to plan. There was no discussion that, for example, the next tournament would be played on another continent."
