Sara Sorribes Tormo produced a seismic shock on the second day of action at the Tokyo Olympic Games dumping out Ashleigh Barty, top seed and tournament favourite in a stunning win.
Sorribes Tormo spoke afterwards and felt a great sense of pride at the occasion ranking it as her top career highlight not only for what it means to her but also her country, Spain.
She joins compatriots, Garbine Muguruza, Paula Badosa and Carla Suarez Navarro also in the next round with the Spanish contingent performing well so far.
“It was incredible, I don’t know what to say, I have goosebumps. It’s amazing,” said Sorribes Tormo in the aftermath of her win on Centre Court at Ariake Tennis Park.
“It’s the best victory in my career, for sure, because of the place, for who she is, because of what the Olympics means to me and because of playing for Spain.”
