Iga Swiatek was vocal to start her press conference after beating Zheng Qinwen about making a stand surrounding online hate for mere aspects of the game as losing a set. But that did not happen today with the Wimbledon champion,
Marketa Vondrousova being swept aside at the
Cincinnati Open.
Swiatek is the first into the semi-finals at the Western & Southern Open after winning 7-6(3), 6-1 over the Czech ace and also got her wish of an earlier match with the World Number One also vocal about the scheduling woes which have beset the WTA as of late.
Despite a slow start from Swiatek though again, she eased through. She struggled with control again with shots not being the laser focused angles that the Pole usually hits and going wide. Vondrousova sealed an early break, but failed to produce when it was time to serve it out.
Albeit the momentum went back and forth with Swiatek again losing her serve, but Vondrousova gave her a tie-break opportunity and it was Swiatek who gratefully took it.
The second was more like Swiatek as Vondrousova continued to get frustrated and the former applied more and more pressure and precise nature to her shots. She secured a double-break lead which was enough and now faces either Coco Gauff or Jasmine Paolini. They play later this evening.
