Svitolina misses match point, falls in opening round of W100 Oeiras to Tauson

While Eugenie Bouchard made it through her first round at the ITF W100 Oeiras Open in Portugal, the same couldn't be said for Elina Svitolina who is the other big name of intrigue this week.

But Svitolina faced a bigger test in terms of prowess and ranking in Danish ace Clara Tauson, a previous WTA title winner who was previously on the rise.

She had to save a match point in victory with Tauson prevailing 2-6, 7-6(3), 6-4 as Svitolina loses another close game.

Albeit it is encouraging signs of the return for the new mother who admitted pre-tournament that she wasn't sure on her long-term tennis future.

Next up barring entering further ITF tournaments will be the pre Roland Garros swing including Madrid and Rome, but despite defeats, she has succeeded in match practice in recent weeks.
