Iga Swiatek famously served a double bagel to Pliskova a few years ago in the
Rome Open final and now she's done it again though it wasn't a final against
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova but rather R2.
Swiatek's last match before this was the Madrid Open final where she lost to Aryna Sabalenka. It wasn't a result that made her very happy and she unleashed all of her anger today against Pavlyuchenkova. Beating a player 6-0 6-0 is never easy no matter what player that is because it requires you to keep high focus for a long period of time.
As a momentum-based game, tennis usually features a few swings here and there so even dominant displays don't end up in a double bagel. Today though Swiatek was magnificent. She took the first set in 38 minutes by winning 12 of 14 points on the second serve of the Russian. She did save a break point so the double bagel almost never happened.
The second set was even quicker at 30 minutes and she didn't have to save break points in that one. Both sets featured her dominating the rallies as Pavlyuchenkova was kind of all over the place at times. She's yet to find the level that got her to the Roland Garros final a few years ago after the injury she had.
