Iga Swiatek got off to a great start at the
US Open defeating Jamie Loeb 6-3 6-4 in the first round.
The American player put up a great fight against Swiatek who was playing against her opponent and the crowd. It took some time for Iga to find her rhythm but eventually, she found it and started playing better. Midway through the set, she took a 3-1 lead.
After that, she continued to play well holding on to the lead and closing out the set with 6-3. Swiatek did not serve well (46%) but she was able to outplay her opponent from the baseline winning the majority of points on her serve. The 2nd set was even more tightly contested than the first.
Loeb found a rhythm of her own and for the large part played rather well. She was solid on her own serve keeping Swiatek away from any break points while the Polish player did the same on her own serve. At 3-3, Swiatek finally found a break point and converted it immediately to take the lead.
She held her serve to make it 5-3 before Loeb won her service game making it 5-4. In the end Swiatek finished it off with 6-4 to move on at the US Open. A good win for Swiatek who needs wins to build up confidence.
