While many top names will in fact take the next week to practice or play Strasbourg or Rabat, it is women's qualifying which begins the road towards Roland Garros in earnest which includes a former US Open champion.
Bianca Andreescu is in an interesting situation as she makes another comeback to the sport. In any given situation usually given her status in the game, she wouldn't need to go through qualifying for a Grand Slam.
But with the FFT usually picking the route of French players, it leads to names like Andreescu and last year the likes of Emma Raducanu and Caroline Wozniacki either deciding to play qualifying or merely moving onto grass. That is the either or move.
Andreescu looked good in Madrid and Rome and so will be one of the favourites to get through. She also looked stronger in the latter as she went through the rounds so has shown her fitness under a new regime she has undergone.
But perhaps there will be danger as she also played a WTA 125k in the week between Madrid and Rome and lost first round so any number of the lower ranked players could spot the scalp of the 24-year-old.
She could face Nao Hibino in the second round then it is anyone from Nuria Parrizas Diaz to Patricia Maria Tig in the latter stages. Three wins are needed to make the main draw. Among the names also going through this route include Priscilla Hon, Harriet Dart, Daria Saville, Petra Martic, Taylor Townsend, Sara Errani and top seeds are Yulia Starodubtseva and Dalma Galfi.
For reference Andreescu is 17th seed but she barely has a ranking given she didn't play for most of October last year until now. An intriguing week awaits in Paris and it is the first chance of action in France.
