Tunisia’s tennis star
Ons Jabeur has stated that she is
still hurting from the
Wimbledon 2023 final defeat.
The 28-year-old suffered a heartbreaking loss in the final
of the mega-event against Czech Republic’s Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets
with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
The result was a hard pill to swallow for the current world
number five as it was her second consecutive defeat in the final of Wimbledon
and third in the Grand Slam finale in the last two years.
Talking ahead of the upcoming
US Open, Jabeur stated that it
is better than how it was a month back.
"100%. I honestly wasn't ready to play Montreal,” she
said. “I wasn't ready to come back soon on tour because I felt like I needed
time for myself. They say time heals. I'm still waiting a bit. The Wimbledon
loss still hurts.
"It's much better than a month ago, for sure. Yeah,
just I think I'm 28 years old now, I've learned from the mistakes of playing,
playing, playing tournaments all the time.
"I think I was really proud of myself
to just take a step back, enjoy time with my family, and get ready for the next
tournaments.”
Jabeur will begin her campaign in the upcoming mega-event
against Camila Osorio of Colombia on Tuesday.
The fourth and final Grand Slam of the year will begin on
Monday where players from all over the globe will battle it out to secure the
ultimate glory.
