Mirra Andreeva turned 17 over the past week and while last year saw Cakegate by the tournament itself, it seems Conchita Martinez was the one who stirred up discussion in this instance.
Andreeva showed off her cake and Pandora bag from her new coach on an Instagram post. But the cake was the real debate with it being called 'one of the weirdest' and this year's edition of Cakegate by tennis fans. As well as that it should've had a picture like Andy Murray due to her love of the former World No.1.
She reached one round further this year at the Madrid Open compared to her 2023 breakthrough losing to Aryna Sabalenka in the Quarter-Finals.
"What type of bakery did this cake for this baby???" one fan commented on social media platform X.
"Girl what is that cake..," another said. "Gotta say this is one of the weirdest birthday cakes I've ever seen," said another.
Others decided to poke fun at its odd appearance and called it a 'nipple cake' and wondered if it was 'age appropriate'. While after Cakegate last year, the comparisons also were there to that moment which saw Carlos Alcaraz receive a much bigger cake than Aryna Sabalenka. "If last year’s cakegate wasn’t enough," one fan said. "What would Madrid be without a yearly cakegate? I bet they had it ready for Carlos like last year. Would explain the concept?," another wrote.

If Madrid really cared about women, they'd have made 17 year-old Mirra Andreeva a birthday cake with Sir Andy Murray's face on it
