Elina Svitolina shared a heartfelt message on social media, marking three years since the start of the war in Ukraine. The world No. 23 has been highly critical of the ongoing conflict in her country and has even met with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Since the beginning of the invasion, Svitolina has been vocal in her opposition. Like other Ukrainian players, she continues to refuse to shake hands with Russian or Belarusian opponents. She became an ambassador for United24, a fundraising initiative focused on rebuilding Ukraine.
The former world No. 3 has also met with members of the Ukrainian army, and just two months ago, she was seen testing a rocket launcher and a machine gun in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

“Today marks three years since russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Three years of unimaginable pain, loss, and destruction. Three years of unwavering resilience, courage, and unity,” Svitolina wrote. “Despite all the suffering, Ukraine stands strong. Our people continue to fight-not just for our land, but for our right to exist, for our democracy, for our future.”
“The bravery of our soldiers, the determination of our citizens, and the unbreakable will of our nation inspire the world every single day,” the 2018 WTA Finals champion added.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who supports Ukraine in this fight-our allies, the humanitarian organizations, and each and every person who refuses to stay silent. Your solidarity gives us strength. Your help saves lives. Your belief in our victory fuels our determination.”
“Ukraine will never give up. We will never surrender. And we will never forget those who stand with us. Glory to Ukraine!” she concldued.
Svitolina last played at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships last week, reaching the second round before being eliminated by Denmark’s Clara Tauson – the tournament’s eventual finalist. The 30-year-old Ukrainian's next challenge will be at Indian Wells, where she will be the 24th seed.
