Alongside the Prague Open played in the Czech Republic, the Top Seed Open is another tournament played after the Coronavirus pandemic break in the tennis world. The action in the main draw begins on Monday and we already know the full schedule of play.
Sunday will be the final day at the Top Seed Open in Lexington. And although we'll see singles and doubles finals, there will be one player who will fight for both titles as Jil Teichmann is having probably the best week of her career.
In singles final, Teichmann will take one Jennifer Brady, who is also playing stunning tennis in Lexington. Both finalists went through the tournament without losing a set and are in a perfect form. Previously, they met twice at the WTA circuit and both got one victory.
In doubles final, it will be Marie Bouzkova teaming up with Jil Teichmann against Hayley Carter and Luisa Stefani. The fourth-seeded Carter & Stefani didn't lose a set in Lexington yet. On the other hand, Bouzkova & Teichmann defeated the third-seeded Gauff & McNally and the first-seeded Guarachi & Krawczyk.
On Saturday, semifinal battles will take place at the Top Seed Open in Lexington. It will be two players in a stunning form that will kick-off the action on the center court. Shelby Rogers and Jil Teichmann are playing very good tennis in Lexington and they have a chance to be rewarded by playing their first final in the 2020 season.
Jennifer Brady and Coco Gauff are another two women that seem to be unstoppable. Brady came from the 5 matches winning streak at the WTT and didn't lose a set at the Top Seed Open yet. On the other hand, Gauff defeated the second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka and no. 8, Ons Jabeur to reach the semifinals.
On Friday we'll see the quarterfinal action from the Top Seed Open. There will be 5 players from the United States competing for their semifinal spot, as we can also see the all-American semifinals in Lexington.
In the first match of the day, it will be Cici Bellis who will take on Jil Teichmann. After that, 23-times Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams will meet Shelby Rogers.
Jennifer Brady and Marie Bouzkova will meet in the third match of the day on the center court. The American is coming from a winning streak at the WTT and played many more matches than her opponent during the WTA Tour suspension.
The eight-seeded Ons Jabeur will clash with the young American talent, Coco Gauff in the last quarterfinal match. Gauff defeated the second-seeded Sabalenka in the 2nd round and is also favorite to win this match.
On Thursday, we'll see another four spectacular second-round matches from the Top Seed Open. Two all-American matches will entertain fans in Lexington as the first-seeded Serena Williams will step on the court again.
In the first match of the day, Jil Teichmann will take on the fifth-seeded Yulia Putintseva. It will be the first meeting for the two as they both didn't lose a set in the first round in Lexington.
The second match on Thursday will be the match - Serena Williams against Venus Williams. 31st match, 30 singles Grand Slam titles in between them and 14 doubles Grand Slam titles that they won together. The great battle of two sisters will entertain fans at the Top Seed Open.
Another all-American match in Lexington will see Cici Bellis taking on Jessica Pegula. Although Bellis was dominant in the first round and defeated Di Lorenzo 6-1, 6-2, her opponent has a stunning form. Pegula played the WTT where she has won 9 out of the 10 matches she played, including victories over Sofia Kenin, Venus Williams, or Sloane Stephens.
Shelby Rogers will be playing against talented Leylah Fernandez in the last match of the day. They met twice on an exhibition tournament during the WTA Tour suspension, and both got a three-set victory so there won't be a big favorite in this match.
Gauff came through against Caroline Dolehide to begin her campaign successfully yesterday but will face off against the hard-hitting second seed in Sabalenka who she will meet for the first time on Wednesday.
That won't be the final match on Center Court today though with Magda Linette the sixth seed facing Jennifer Brady. Before both matches, Marie Bouzkova will be in action after seeing off Johanna Konta; next will be Anna Blinkova.
Starting off proceedings is Ons Jabeur with the eighth seed taking on Olga Govortsova, a qualifier as she aims to continue her run.
Serena Williams, the number one seed at the Top Seed Open will give fans a first glimpse of her form when she takes on Bernarda Pera first on Center Court today.
From a current great to a potential future great in Coco Gauff who follows that taking on compatriot, Caroline Dolehide. Like Williams, it is hard to say what shape the former will be in.
Dolehide has played qualifying in Lexington and so may hold a slim advantage in the early running having played herself into action.
Another top American in action is Amanda Anisimova who begins Court 2 proceedings today. Again hard to say with Cici Bellis looking good to begin the year and she could produce the shock here.
Two more big ties will take place on Center Court today with Venus Williams against Victoria Azarenka. The latter could be picked to win with Williams being on a downward trajectory but she has played more ranking tennis this year and so could be favoured albeit in a close tie.
Then it is Sloane Stephens who will take on a tough test in 17-year-old Canadian, Leylah Fernandez. The former lost to her at Monterrey after Fernandez had reached the final at Acapulco.
Straight forward wins over Zarazua and Rodionova saw her win through to the main draw and barring any brilliance from Stephens, it could yet again be Fernandez's day.
Yulia Putintseva against Ajla Tomljanovic and Shelby Rogers v Misaki Doi are also among the ties on the second day in Kentucky.
After the last qualifying matches, the sixth-seeded Magda Linette will kick-off the main draw action against Lauren Davis. Also the third-seeded Johanna Konta will be playing on Monday, facing the Czech talent Marie Bouzkova.
The second-seeded will take on Madison Brengle in the last match on the center court. In the doubles draw, we'll also see Bethanie Mattek-Sands teaming up with Sloane Stephens to face Emina Bektas and Tara Moore.
