The injury setbacks just continue to come for the extremely unfortunate Paula Badosa who was forced to retire from yet another match in the last-32 of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships against Elina Svitolinla.
From the off it looked promising for the Spaniard who sailed into a 4-1 lead. This was an impressive feat against the extremely inform Svitolina. However, the Australian Open semi-finalist stole a march on her opponent, taking the spotlight with five games in a row to seal the first set.
No more tennis would be played after this. When at the helm with her healthy advantage, Badosa called over the physiotherapist as the concerns grew. She eventually called it a day with discomfort in her right thigh, leaving the court in anguish as another opportunity sails by with an uncertain amount of time on the sidelines waiting.

Badosa takes out frustration on social media user

The former world number two has had so many injury woes over the past few years. She looked to be back at her best when reaching the 2025 Australian Open semi-final before missing such big events and periods such as the US Open, clay swing and North American hardcourt swing.
She had been preparing for the season well, but it looks like her demons have once again returned to haunt her on the big stage. Badosa will look to get over this hopefully minor blip and get back out on court as soon as possible with the Sunshine swing firmly on the horizon.
While this creeps ever closer, she has stood up for herself on social media against an X user. They wrote: "Paula Badosa is so disrespectful to the game, you just cannot retire/withdraw from every tournament."
Badosa was ruthless when responding. "You have no idea what it’s like to live with a chronic injury and still choose to keep going," she began. "To wake up everyday not knowing how your body will respond, searching for solutions, and fighting for something you love and give everything even when it’s so difficult."

She opens up on how painful and frustrating it is, but motivated to keep trying. "Trust me I’m the first one suffering with pain and having endless nightmares to try to find solutions every single day and for me after all stepping on a tennis court, makes worth everything every time. So I’ll keep trying. Because it’s all about trying and that won’t change. I’ll always try one more time."
The 28-year-old continued to go in on the user. "I’m doing this for my passion and for myself. And if there’s even a 1% chance to keep going, I’ll take it. That’s just how I see and understand life. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to follow me. And I’m so sorry to inform you I won’t retire so you’ll keep seeing me for a while. Change channel next time."
She then targets the broader range of 'experts' on social media. "So for me the only disrespect here is to open this social media and read messages like this. Then we complain if we see players or people suffering and having mental health issues, but after all I’m not surprise with the amount of hate and “experts” we have here."
However, she did end on a positive message. "But anyways I want to thank the people who always supports me no matter what. Thank you for being with me in this journey and sorry for giving you this tough times. Hopefully sun will shine soon," she concluded.
